Qatar is a small peninsula in the Persian Gulf.  It looks like a big thumb ' way up'.

The state of Qatar lies midway along the Western coast of the Arabian Gulf. The country comprises a peninsula of 11,437 square kilometers and several islands. The most important of these islands are Hawar, Halul, Jinan and Shra'ouh. The peninsula of Qatar is located between 24° 27' and 26° 10' north latitudes and 50° 45' and 51° 40' east longitudes. It borders the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the south. The United Arab Emirates and the State of Bahrain are located southeast and west of the Qatar peninsula respectively. The State of Qatar generally consists of flat rocky surfaces. Some low hills and sand dunes are found in the western and southern parts of the country.  The dunes are quite stunning-tall, shapely sand masses formed by the prevailing winds and subject to radical overnight changes of shape.

The country is small but offers quite a few interesting things to the visitors.  Doha, the capital is a nice town with good beaches nearby and lively markets. Khor Al Udeid, or the Inland Sea, in the extreme south-east of the country is of great natural beauty.

Doha

Doha means 'the big tree; in Arabic. Doha is the capital city and seat of government. The country’s main seaport and its international airport are located in Doha -- the gateway to the rest of the world. It is the most important cultural, commercial and financial center.

Located on the eastern and the only really large city in the country. Almost 80% of all Qatari's live there. So it is not surprising that Doha is where it all happens in Qatar.

Doha is amazing city it is the best city to enjoy in Qatar.

TOURIST ATTRACTION

The main sights in the city are the museums, the old fort, the many mosques, Qatar foundation (education city) and the Corniche. The sea and the desert are still the source of wealth and destination for anyone looking for an enjoyable day way from the hustle and bustle of modern day to day life.  They are also the backbone of tourism industry in Qatar: the sea with its calm beaches and its warm waters: the desert with its vista of endless stretches and marvels of nature as well as man-made wonder. Visitors to Qatar will notice the various facilities readily available the moment their plane lands at Doha Airport, a 10 to 15 minute drive away from hotel, recreational clubs and shopping center.  A tour through the city would temp you to visit scores of wonderful places which reflect the country's cultural identity and its rapid development, among other places that a visitor should not miss.
